While the kids watched the Oscars on February 26th, the Donald Trump administration hosted its black-tie event, the annual Governors’ Dinner, marking Trump’s first major social gathering of the 45th president.
CNN reported that The National Governors Association’s annual meeting and dinner in Washington will honour the governors of the 50 states and has been planned since President Trump’s inauguration.
Former President Barack Obama’s former social secretary Jeremy Bernard claims it is one of the year’s “major events”.
Earlier this week, Press Secretary Sean Spicer told reporters that First Lady Melania Trump has helped to plan the upcoming gala alongside her friend and senior adviser Stephanie Wolkoff (former event director for fashion magazine Vogue).
The theme of the dinner was “Spring’s Renewal,” with the first lady stating that “the scents of jasmine and roses fill the air as we give thanks for this great Nation and the glory of renewal.”
The first lady also claims the night will be non-political, refuting Trump’s plans to discuss issues such as healthcare reform.
“I am proud to invite all the governors to the White House for this important annual event,” the first lady also said. “Tonight, we come together as one Nation, leaving political labels and partisan interests behind.”
The event will have a crowd of 50 governors and their plus-ones, the State Dining Room holds 134 guests.
Celebrity appearances such as actress Jennifer Garner will be present to discuss political issues such as early childhood education.
