Last Friday, November 24th, was none other than Black Friday – a day where consumerism reaches its peak – people waking up at the crack of dawn to line up for first access to the year’s best deals, people getting run over trying to snatch the sale items, and altogether, just a chaotic, yet appealing day of buying, buying, and more buying.

At least that is what Black Friday used to be. I don’t know about you, but I get a sense that the excitement of Black Friday has been declining over the years. Online shopping platforms like Amazon, oftentimes offer equally good – if not better – deals; the appeal of actually going to the mall is not as great as it used to be. To add to the loss of significance attributed to Black Friday, what’s up with so many stores starting their Black Friday sales a week early, or extending their Black Friday deals for an additional week? If you’ve ever signed up with your email for store promotions, you may notice that even now, Black Friday promotions are being extended.  Not to mention, the whole concept of Cyber Monday is certainly just an excuse to extend a sale to attract customers.  This extension of Black Friday further diminishes this holiday’s significance, because it is no longer just one day dedicated to sales.
