Spirit

This prompt was inspired by Halloween. Influenced by the day full of spirits (pun intended), our artists had come up with their own creative interpretation of the word “Spirit”. Several artists also resolved to create music pieces for this event. Enjoy!

Happy Halloween

St. Robert’s yearly tradition of a Halloween celebration and dress up day was held on October 30, 2015, wishing all the students a happy yet haunted Halloween. Students dressed up in their favourite costumes, bringing the school to maximum life and energy.

Vampires, skeletons, witches, you name it. All were present. Other events such as the pumpkin decorating and the door decorating contests also took place on this day. Various classes competed against one another to create the scariest and best looking door or pumpkin.

With the hard work and creativity coming from the students and teachers, this day was a spooky, yet exciting day for all students to enjoy themselves and have fun.

Behind the Scenes: The Arts Council

During Halloween, you walk towards the cafeteria and BAM! You see Halloween “Head-in-the-Hole” cutouts (better known as, cut-out stand-ins), just like the ones found at amusement parks. During Christmas season, St.Robert becomes suddenly more festive with Christmas-themed lockers. These touches of creativity and innovation hit us immediately- creating feelings of excitement and elation toward the festive season.

The masterminds behind these amazing festivities are the members of our very own Arts Council, who encourage school spirit and involvement in the arts. Earlier this semester, they hosted pumpkin-carving contests for Halloween, and sold clay poppies to raise money and awareness for war veterans around Remembrance Day. In the coming month, they are planning on making St. Robert more festive by decorating parts of the school and organizing gift-wrapping contests to instigate the “holiday spirit”. Of course the Arts Council encompasses not only the visual arts, but drama, dance, and music as well. It is inspiring to see such a well-rounded club that cultivates imagination and expression, while striving to motivate others to keep the arts alive in our school community. Linda L. (12), an Arts Council member, shares a fitting quote by Edgar Degas, that reads “Art is not what you see, but what you make others see”
