My Legacy

Sherry Shu (10) | STAFF REPORTER

Walking down the St. Robert hallway,

I told myself to smile.

To shout, to comfort, to hug. To give a friendly “hello!” or a “how’s it going?” To tell that one embarrassing story I’ve been keeping in since grade 5, and to goof off as possible with a friend no matter how many people are raising their eyebrows. To pin the corners of my mouth towards the heavens, no matter how much I may feel broken inside.

When I have gone from this life, the money and success may be admired. The glory and popularity will be noted down. But the only thing that keeps our spirit here on earth while it floats away to a mysterious land is the memories we’ve formed with others. The way we poured our hearts into the hearts of the people we’ve touched.

I am in love with the pure gift I have to make people laugh.

And more than anything else, before the work and the bills come, before I start to fade and forget

I want to smear this gift across the faces of everyone I meet.
