Chandler sat inside the hidden Ritual Department branch of the airport. Only the higher ups of the airport and its department of magicians had access to it. He was about to refill the materials for his potions in preparation for his next ritual when an assistant rushed in.
“Sir,” the assistant exclaimed, “you have to come with me. There’s a plane about to take off without having the ritual done first!”
“Where?” Chandler eyed the assistant’s badge, which confirmed that he was a low ranked member of the Department. “How did this happen?”
They exited the Ritual Department branch. Chandler always marveled at the normalcy of the main parts of the airport; full of regular people and lower ranking airport workers. They had no idea of the inner workings of the airport, or of the intricate measures being taken to protect them from the sky deities; they didn’t even know of the otherworldly threats in the sky.
“I got the time for the takeoff wrong,” the apprentice said. “When I went to the terminal, there was a guard there. He was a regular officer, not one of the ones who know about rituals. I wasn’t high ranked enough to pass.”
Chandler reached into his briefcase, feeling the stoppers of potion and the outlines of runes. “Where is the plane going?”

In the distance, they could see the plane in question detach from the terminal and make its way to the runway.
“Sir, shouldn’t we notify someone to stop the flight?” the apprentice asked anxiously.
Chandler sighed. “It’ll be fine. One missed ritual isn’t enough to set off any accidents. We’ll just report it to the department.”
Judging from the size, there weren’t many passengers, and it wouldn’t be a very long flight. Besides, the sky deities must be well aware that this airport had always had a good track record with their rituals, so they probably wouldn’t take out their anger on this flight. Nothing drastic would happen; just a lot of turbulence and delays at most.
