September 15, 2021, was the 20th anniversary of one of Disney’s classic favourites “Proud Family”. To mark this occasion Disney announced that there would be a reboot!

The reboot will be titled The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder, and to add a cherry on top of this nostalgia sundae, Disney has announced that it will feature star-studded guest appearances, including Lizzo, Normani, Lil Nas X, Tiffany Haddish, Tina Knowles-Lawson, Jaden Smith, along with Olympic gymnasts Gabby Douglas, and Laurie Hernandez just to name a few.

The show is likely to give everyone a sense of nostalgia. The story centres around all the favourite characters of the original, and much of the original’s hilarious antics.

What’s more, Kyla Pratt, the original voice of Penny Proud, is returning for the reboot! Among the returning cast JoMarie Payton (Suga Mama), Paula Jai Parker (Trudy, and  Proud), and Cedric the Entertainer (Uncle Bobby), and this is only a handful.

The original Proud Family ran from 2001 to 2005 and followed 14-year-old Penny Proud as she navigated high school. The show held great cultural significance during this time. The cast was almost exclusively people of colour, and great attention to detail is paid to cultural hairstyles and fashion. Each episode included a moral lesson about dealing with friendships, peer pressure, bullying, dating, race, sexism, cultural heritage or society.

The reboot is set to air in February 2022, so time is running out to rewatch the original, better get to it!
