In the last few years, Hollywood has tried hard to be inclusive of all. Reducing racism, sexism, and other forms of discrimination have been their greatest goal. With the rise of nepotism in the industry, there has been talk about whether this is good or bad. While some are for it, saying that these talented families have the power to keep their name in the industry, others are against it.
Nepotism is when a celebrity has famous parents, so their fame automatically corresponds to the fame of their children. They are famous and talented by default. Some examples of “nepotism babies” include Lily-Rose Depp (Johnny Depp’s daughter), Miley Cyrus (Billy Ray Cyrus’s daughter), Willow and Jaden Smith (children of Will Smith), Zoë Kravitz (daughter of Lenny Kravitz), and many others. Now the question is, are these “nepotism babies” really talented, or are they just taking up space in the industry because of their famous parents?
Celebrity families that are rich and powerful have more say over new people who are just getting started with their careers and have no connections yet. Some say “nepotism babies” have an advantage in advancing their careers, while others say that with hard work, anything can be achieved. Although that is true, it would just take a longer period of time to get their feet through the door when compared to these celebrity children. At the end of the day, nepotism is giving Hollywood the attention they want, so why would they control it?
