November 11th is a time to remember and reflect. On November 11th, 2022, we as the St. Robert’s community came together on this day to acknowledge the lives given during the First World War. An assembly to commemorate soldiers was held in the large gym and live-streamed in the cafeteria.

Remembrance Day is a memorial day during which we commemorate the agreement which ended the First World War on Monday, November 11, 1918, at 11 a.m. We mourn the lives of soldiers all across Canada with the national Remembrance Day service being conducted in Ottawa.

During the first period, Grade 9 and 12 students attended the assembly while grade 10 and 11 students attended during the second period. In this assembly, we heard from a soldier who was from the Canadian Armed Forces speaking about his experiences as a soldier. In addition to his inspiring speech, we also heard a beautiful saxophone performance at the end of the assembly.

Many students were inspired and moved by the assembly. One student stated that the beautiful eulogy given by Mr. Wood was a reminder of why Remembrance Day was so important. The assembly truly gave everyone a moment to reflect on the privilege we have in Canada.

Remembrance Day will always be an integral part of our Canadian history, and we will continue to honour and commemorate it at St. Robert’s.
