The midterm season is hardly conducive to a positive mindset for students who feel disappointed by their marks. However, it is important to remember that these reports play an imperative role in successful academic performance and progression throughout the semester.
The midterm report card provides insight on an individual student’s strengths, areas for improvement, and overall progress in school. If a student is struggling in a particular area, the first report will draw attention to the need for external support so that learning adjustments can be made in time for final report cards. Otherwise, such issues are neglected and, on several occasions, affect a student’s self-esteem and motivation to make improvements to their study habits.
While midterm marks initially discourage many students, they ultimately help a student reach his or her full potential by identifying any obstacles that could be hindering academic progress. Applying feedback from the midterm will assist students in targeting their next steps and in seeing significant improvement by the end of the semester.
