It is an undeniable fact that, out of the entire year, summer break is the most anticipated break by the majority of students. However, it is also well known that summer school takes up about 1/3 of the summer, which leads me to the conclusion that summer school should absolutely be shortened!
Last year, I enrolled in St. Robert’s summer school “Kick Start” program, where I was able to meet many new people. Although it was a lovely experience and it helped me to get accustomed to my new school, the program took up quite a bit of time. It followed the exact same starting and ending hours as regular school, so I couldn’t help but feel exhausted due to the excessive amount of time used for summer school.
Summer break is all about opportunities and enjoying the beautiful outdoors. Of course, it’s a voluntary choice to attend summer school, but as someone who will continue to take summer school for the next few years, I believe that there is no need for being stuck indoors for such a long time.
From my personal experience, students finish their assignments for summer school earlier than the ending date, which leads to extra time. Shortening summer school is not only great for students to have time to focus on themselves, but it is also a great opportunity for teachers to spend some quality time with their kids and friends. People should be able to enjoy what summer has to offer — its beautiful outdoors, its numerous opportunities, and most importantly, making memories that will last a lifetime.
