Kendrick Lamar, the winner of 17 Grammys and first rap musician to win a Pulitzer Prize, was chosen by NFL’s head of music Seth Dudowsky to perform in New Orleans at the Apple Music Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show. Their choice is further backed up by Dudowsky’s statement : “Time and time again, Kendrick has proven his unique ability to craft moments that resonate, redefine, and ultimately shake the very foundation of hip-hop.”

His performance on February 9, 2025, was greatly criticized to the extent that NFL staff wrote an apology to Lil Wayne as they choose Lamar over him. The letter thanked him for the support and his promotion of the Super Bowl.

Lamar began his performance on top of a car surrounded by backup dancers. Many strongly disliked it, with one fan commenting, “That was the worst halftime show ever.” and another saying, “Kendrick Lamar says ‘turn this TV off’ before ending his Super Bowl halftime performance. He should have told us that at the beginning of the performance.”

Overall, many felt that the performance failed to leave a mark due to the lack of life and enjoyment within the act, yet it was the most viewed halftime show with 133.5 million viewers.
