Professional American footballer Colin Kaepernick has been making big headlines since 2016, when he first began protesting police brutality against African-Americans by kneeling during the anthem. Now the world renowned brand Nike has joined the story by choosing Kaepernick as the face of their new Just Do it campaign.

The choice of Kaepernick as the new face of their campaign has been a success for Nike sales. Nike has been selling 61% more products since this new ad campaign and sports wear like the women’s Kaepernick jersey have already sold out, according to study done by Thomson Reuters. In addition, Nike’s stock has gone up 7%.

But not everyone is so happy with Nike’s decision. Many people who disapprove of Kaepernick’s protests have begun to retaliate by burning their Nike merchandise. Though the action is futile, thousands have chosen to burn their merchandise and many more have vowed to never buy from the brand again.  In addition, city and even state officials in Texas, Florida, Tennessee, and Louisiana have been making attempts to ban Nike merchandise for either government paid-employees or for everybody.
