A Key Most Divinely Desired, a Key Impossible to Attain

Isabella Pan (9) | STAFF REPORTER

To possess a key that could soar through time and space, across galaxies and perhaps even alternate dimensions would be a dream come true. If I were to receive a key that can open any door and gateway, literal or metaphorical, the first place I would travel to would be my childhood.

Recently I have been missing the familiar comfort of my past; when life was much simpler. The stressful, hectic, and unfamiliar beginning of high school has led to many moments when I would just stop, pause, and reminisce about the past, almost too good to have even been true. Not to say that high school has been a complete hell hole, but the increase in workload and “competition” has definitely taken a toll on me. To have the power to unlock the gates of time, to travel into some of the best parts of my childhood, and just relive them, if only just once more, would be a breath of fresh air.

Our childhoods are said to be some of the best years of our life. As we’re growing older, becoming adolescents, we often forget to look back and reflect on our growth. We’re all so focused on moving forward, the end goal, that we miss all the beautiful scenery around us until it’s too late. That’s how I feel about my fleeting childhood. I craved the idea of being mature, shouldering responsibilities, and having freedom like kids would crave candy. Now, I’m who I wanted to be all my childhood, but the tables have turned and all I want to do is go back.
