Overview:
After 15 years of waiting, Harry Potter, Hermione, and Ron are coming back on screen, with a set release date in 2026 on HBO. The series was first announced in 2023 and is estimated to take a decade to complete.
Collaboration:
The heads of HBO and Max, Casey Bloys and Channing Dungey, have recently met with J.K. Rowling to discuss plans about this project. The excitement surrounding this film is quite large as iterated on Friday morning: “Both sides are thrilled to be reigniting this franchise. Our conversations were great, and we couldn’t be more excited about what’s ahead.”
Cast:
There will be a brand new cast, and they are looking for residents of UK and Ireland between the ages of 9 to 11. However, it is quite difficult to find a cast that age as stated by Dungey in the following statement to Varsity, “The tricky part is the first two books, where the kids are on the younger end, around 11 or 12.” Casting is also occurring for the side characters. In fact, it is suspected that the new Dumbledore would be Mark Rylance, a 64 year old actor.
