Since the beginning of 2023, the USA has faced over 200 mass shootings that vary in places such as schools, malls, and other popular public areas. Civilians are left in a frenzy due to the constant risk of sudden gunmen appearing and parents are wary of sending their children into public settings. Furthermore, law enforcement is struggling to keep up with the number of mass shootings happening all over the country.
For instance, the Texas shootings in Cleveland and the Allen Mall outlet have totalled 14 deaths over the span of one week. And during the shooting in Allen, Texas, it’s reported that a person stepped out of a vehicle and began unloading numerous firearms into the mall. Victims say that they escaped through the rear entrance of stores while others hid in storage rooms until the chaos was over. This action was considered the second-deadliest massacre of 2023.
All these violent occurrences within a short period of time have led to significant uprisings that guns should either be regulated or banned. Many Americans claim that the US government has failed to effectively regulate guns and that such weapons should be banned. People on social media have even cast their opinions on the situation, saying that weapons should be banned until government resolutions are made successfully moderate the use of firearms.
Firearms are the leading cause of death in America with over 14,000 lives already taken. The lack of action from the American government is evident as the debate over gun control continues to spur. As a result, the country is responsible for approximately 46% of the world’s civilian-owned handguns and is the leading country in mass shootings as of 2023.
