What is Area 51? Where is it located? And what mysteries does it hold in store for us? The United States Air Force (USAF) facility, or what is commonly known as “Area 51”, was first created in 1955 and is located in southern Nevada. There is virtually no information about what goes on inside, but USAF has said that it is an open training range for the US Air Force.
About a month ago, a seemingly placid Facebook joke created by Californian Matty Roberts – “Storm Area 51, They Can’t Stop All Of Us”, grew into an intriguing and controversial topic encouraging thousands to go and “raid Area 51”. The raid was scheduled on September 20th and throughout the following weeks, over 2 million people made arrangements to show up. Countless news outlets and media attention came about, and even memes arose surrounding this topic.
When September 20th finally rolled around, approximately 6000 people actually showed up at Area 51 and its few surrounding towns. After the giant hype and a disappointing turnout, Area 51 remains a secluded and mysterious place to this date. Wild speculations are still being shared, ranging from the base hiding aliens to many claims of UFO sightings. Many are over the controversy but others still remain strong in their quest to uncover the secrets of Area 51. At this point, who knows what occurs beyond the fences of Area 51?
