While St. Robert’s may be best known for its focus on academics, our Arts Department certainly cannot be discounted. The Arts in our school are split into Drama, Music, and Visual Arts. To promote our Arts courses, the Arts’ Council recently hosted Arts’ Week during the week of February 13.
The main feature of Arts’ Week was the button sales. The sales ran during all three lunches (A, B, and C) for the duration of Arts’ Week. There were a variety of buttons being sold for 50 cents apiece. The designs were selected by members of the Arts Council, and they ranged from nice messages to fun doodles. Students were even given an opportunity to make their own buttons by providing a custom design, for the same price.
While Arts’ Week is certainly a fun event, it’s not just for the sake of amusement. The Arts are an important part of our society, meaning that everyone should learn about them. They can be a welcome break from academics and the stresses of our everyday lives. “The Arts just help me destress and make me feel good, and you get to connect with people who are as passionate as you. In a school like St. Robert’s… it’s nice that there’s a community of people here that take drama and take visual arts and all that other stuff, you really get to connect with those people,” said Tessa Poscente, a grade 10 representative for the Drama division of Arts’ Council. The Arts can be a wonderful way to further enrich your school experience, and there is no doubt that they help bring stress relief and create new friendships.
