If you haven’t been living under a rock for the past few years, you’ve likely heard of the MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator) personality test. The concept is simple: you answer a couple of questions on a scale from “Strongly Agree” to “Strongly Disagree,” and – based on your responses – you’re assigned one of sixteen personality types. Each personality type has four components: Introverted versus Extraverted, Sensing versus iNtuition, Thinking versus Feeling, and Judging versus Perceiving, and whichever ones you more closely align with inform your personality. As a Catholic school, St. Robert constantly affirms the importance of virtues. We learn about virtues in our religion classes, hear about them over the announcements, and even have a virtue assigned for each month. In Civics class, we learn about our rights and freedoms as citizens of Canada. We are taught that all virtues should be upheld no matter what and that we should have access to our rights and freedoms under any circumstance. What happens when two rights — two virtues — contradict one another? Which takes priority? read more

I’m sure that most people would agree that teachers can make or break a student’s educational experience. As university applications loom over Saint Robert’s twelfth-grade population — and, indeed, the twelfth-grade population of all of Ontario — one can’t help but ponder how necessary it is for a young adult to have a post-secondary degree if they hope to get a decent job. Many entry-level job postings require some form of post-secondary education. The Georgetown University Center of Education and the Workforce predicts that by 2027, seventy percent of all jobs will require post-secondary education, a significant rise in percentage compared to the prediction the center made regarding 2020. read more

Grace, intelligence, beauty, integrity. These are all things one may expect from me, Liora Abrera Manoim, a new grade twelve staff member of our lovely school newspaper. My excellent, yet-to-be-written articles will be found under this website’s ‘Editorials’ tab. There, you will learn about many topics, curated by me and approved by our wonderfully competent Editors and our great supervisor, Mr. Wood. I have a variety of interests, from art to books to archeology; it’s these topics that I will be writing about the most. I’m also on staff as a graphic designer, so look out for some beautifully designed newsletters and Instagram posts (@theaxiomnewspaper).
