On Christmas eve, Joseph was sitting on his couch drinking coffee. Suddenly, he heard a noise in his fireplace. He went and bent over to look into the fireplace, and something heavy hit the back of his head. Everything went dark.

Miriam ducked inside the bus stop, shaking out her umbrella. Droplets of rainwater sprayed onto her black dress and shoes. She had declined the offer to go home with her parents. She understood that they should be together at this time. But right now Miriam wanted to be alone.

The client sitting across from Harris was prattling on. “And I feel like they just don’t get me, you know what I mean?”

Emilia and Aaron crouched in the flowerbeds, concealed behind the porch steps. The dark mansion towered above them, the roof tapering into a steeple.

Hello, St. Robert students, and fellow Axiom writers. My name is Rachel, and I am a grade 10 Pre-IB student. I will be doing creative writing pieces for this year and I’m excited to continue my writing after working as part of The Axiom last year. I look forward to seeing new prompts and meeting different classmates.

James was taking the subway to school. I sat beside him, listening to the clacking of keys. He was typing out the essay that he hadn’t been able to finish because he had been visiting his mother last night.

Luke Tahaney stood in a circle with a dozen other spirits, around a huge orb of flame. Incandescent threads of light linked the shackles around their wrists to the ground.

Jasmine stood in a corridor lined with doors. Other workers were entering and exiting their own doors.

Sheila woke up. Just like it had every day she’d been there, the room was gently shaking. A mechanical hum reverberated in her ears.

“I know it takes some getting used to,” It’d said solemnly. “You can take a look around and check them out.” It had dropped a key into Bill’s hand and left.
