Donald John Trump, the 45th and current president of the United States of America, is facing an ongoing impeachment inquiry that could see him removed from his position as leader. In American history, only four presidents (including Donald Trump) have faced impeachment inquiries. These presidents include Richard Nixon (in 1868, who wasn’t actually formally impeached by Congress, but came close) as well as Bill Clinton (1998) and Andrew Johnson (1974) – who were both formally impeached, but not officially removed from office through the impeachment process (they were acquitted by the Senate). For Canadians all over the country, recent news of Elizabeth May stepping down as the Green Party leader, after 13 years, comes as quite a surprise. That determined, poised, and self-assured face we are all so used to seeing during the campaigning and fierce federal leaders’ debates is now stepping away from the leader profile, but will continue to serve her federal riding of Saanich-Gulf Islands in British Columbia, as a Member of Parliament in the House of Commons. read more

Should Pluto be Considered a Planet… Again?

Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune; these are the celestial bodies that children of this day and age have familiarized as the official eight planets of our solar system. However, before 2006, there were nine celestial bodies considered to be planets in our solar system, with the planet farthest from the sun being Pluto. Since the International Astronomical Union (the IAU) made the decision to reconsider Pluto as a planet, and then officially rebranded Pluto as a dwarf planet, the debate over whether Pluto should be a planet has been reopened numerous times. There are strong arguments coming from both sides of the table, with scientists defending and countering Pluto’s status as a planet. What do you think?
