Bilingualism is the ability to speak two languages. It holds a special meaning in Canada as people can communicate with both the Canadian official languages: English and French.
There are many advantages to learning a foreign language in both our everyday lives, as well as in the workforce. Rain (9) said:” By being able to speak two languages, we have the opportunity to help others by translating.” Knowing more languages can improve one’s language skills and according to research, multilingual speakers have a better attention span and can multi-task more efficiently than monolingual speakers. People are also exposed to different cultures as they get to know more about the country while learning a second language. In the workforce, being bilingual can attract more opportunities, and make an employee more valuable.
There are many benefits in being bilingual. In order to expand your horizon, create more chances for yourself, and open up the opportunities to meet foreigners. So, don’t be afraid to speak up and learn a new language.
