On May 21 and May 22, St. Robert’s Cafe Club and Chaplaincy Council ran bake sales at which each confection, priced at $2 an item, highlighted a particular one of the seven heavenly virtues.
The light and subtly sweet grape mochi represents the balance necessary to practice temperance. It allows one to enjoy sweetness in moderation rather than in excess. In alignment with the principles of kindness and diligence, respectively, strawberry meringue requires care and attention to master, while blueberry cake requires hard work and focus. The classic flavour and snowy white appearance of vanilla crinkle cookies are associated with the purity and innocence of chastity, and the calming, earthy flavour of matcha brownies with the mindfulness and serenity of patience. Lastly, the brownie appears plain yet is well received for its reliable, comforting taste, reflecting how those who live with humility offer steadiness and care without needing to outshine others.
Many thanks to the Cafe Club and Chaplaincy Council for organising such a thoughtful bake sale! For more information, visit @strcafeclub or @strchaplaincy on Instagram.
