Crafting Community: A Look Into the Crochet Club

Lancy Wang (9) | STAFF REPORTER

The Crochet Club is one of our school’s most creative clubs, where students meet biweekly on Tuesdays in room P09 to dive into the art of crochet. Here, members get together to learn new techniques, share tips, and work on fun projects in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere.

Their first official meeting took place on October 29th, where members have been working on mastering the “magic circle”, an essential crochet skill that serves as the foundation for future crochet projects. The magic circle creates a tightly closed centre for your crochet project, and is often used when starting projects that work in a circular pattern, such as amigurumi (crocheted stuffed toys), hats, or other small accessories.

The Crochet Club is also collaborating with the school’s Chaplaincy Council for an important event on November 12-13, after school in the library. For $2, students can make their own crochet keychains, choosing from designs like whales, frogs, ducks, and butterflies. All materials are provided, but with only 45 spots available, registration is required to participate.

This event is just one way the Crochet Club brings students together. The club provides a unique space for students to express their creativity and connect with others. Through regular meetings and events, the club continues to grow, giving more students opportunities to relax and have fun.
