With the NFL 100th season ending with a huge comeback of 21 unanswered points by the Kansas City Chiefs, many angry critics point the blame towards Kyle Shanahan and his play calling for the 49ers with 7 minutes left.

With a 20-10 lead entering into the final quarter, the 49ers only had to prevent the Chiefs from scoring twice by running the ball. Instead, Shanahan decided to test his luck by throwing the ball multiple times. This turned into 3 touchdowns turning it 31-20, Chiefs. The Chiefs’ fans were rewarded while the 49ers fans were let down.

49ers legend, Steve Young, questioned their calls before the ends of each half with them either being too passive or too aggressive giving the Chiefs a chance. Kyle Shanahan responded back to critics saying, “I thought it played out all right.” and later states that he believed they could have scored if it was not for the calls and poor execution.

Even with the 49ers season ending with disappointment, many still regard them as a top contender for next year’s title. There is still a bright future for them believed by fans, as well as players.
