On March 7th, 2019, students of St. Robert Catholic High School cycled and cheered on their teammates in support of children who suffer from cancer and their families, as a part of the annual Inside Ride event.
The leading cause of disease-related death in Canadian children, childhood cancer affects communities in ways that are often overlooked. The Coast to Coast Cancer Foundation is an organization that supports survivor scholarships, cancer research, and more. Inside Ride is one of their events, in which members of a team cycle for 10 minutes each.
A few weeks leading up to the event, the Coast to Coast Cancer Foundation held an information assembly, which officially kick-started the event. Students were to form teams of 6 and fundraise a minimum of $50 per person. Teams were encouraged to get creative with their names and costumes, and they definitely exceeded expectations.
On the day of the event, volunteers diligently arrived early to help set up and prepare for what was to be an exciting and energetic event. Once all the teams were safely inside the gym and prepared to ride, the first riders got on the bike. For the next hour, their teammates cheered them on and danced to the music.
After the event, the riders sat on the gym floor anticipating the awards ceremony. Everyone was elated when it was announced that St. Robert CHS had raised over $33,000 in support children with cancer, thus becoming one of Inside Ride’s largest donors.
Although everyone was exhausted, Inside Ride was a refreshing event that not only helped relax the riders leading up to March Break but also raised money towards a meaningful cause.
