On April 4th, 2019, the infamous Korean girl group, Blackpink, broke the YouTube record for fastest video to reach 70 million views, on their new hit single, “Kill This Love”.
Breaking the previous record set by BTS with the globally known song, “Fake Love”, Blackpink hit the mark in exactly 1 day, 13 hours and 30 minutes. BTS, however, took 2 days, 1 hour and 50 minutes. Not only did they beat the infamous “Fake Love” by BTS, but they also surpassed Ariana Grande’s ‘Thank u, next’ with 56.7 million views 24 hours after it’s release.
A week later, Korean boy group, BTS, broke Blackpink’s record with a total of 74.6 million views in the first 24 hours of releasing “Boy with Love”. Their boldly-coloured music video of “Boy With Love” featuring Halsey, became the fastest video ever to reach 100 million views.
This is certainly not the first win for BTS as they have accumulated quite a large fan base over the years. Their leader, Kim Namjoon also known as ‘RM’, has reminded their fans that they will continue to stay grounded as they “… should never think [they’ve] conquered the world.”
