Meet Your Reporter: Lillian Mo

Greetings!  My name is Lillian Mo, and I am incredibly excited to begin reporting on school events throughout the course of this year.  I am in grade 9.  My friends often find me incredibly loquacious, which is why I believe a platform like the Axiom would be the perfect place for me to connect my mind to pen and paper (or rather keyboard).

My interests have a wide range, but I like to consider myself a sort of Renaissance woman (of course, without the incredible virtuosity of one).  Some things I like to do include playing the piano, hiking, reading and writing (hence the Axiom), of which reading is likely my greatest passion.  Some of my favourite authors include Jane Austen and Betty Smith.  One day, I would definitely like to read the full, unabridged version of Les Miserables, but in the meantime, listening to the musical is sufficient.

In terms of my taste in music, as can be inferred from above, I am a huge fan of musical theatre.  I find it fascinating how songs and leitmotifs can be weaved together to form a major arc, and sometimes even more than one arc.  Additionally, the harmonies in musical theatre are beautiful, especially in a song of the likes of One Day More, where all of the characters sing different parts, but it leads up to one big climax.  As I said previously, I play the piano, so hearing a well-thought-out harmony is always a treat!

I’m super grateful to be given this opportunity to write for this award-winning newspaper, and I hope to write again soon!
