Do Students Stress Too Much?

When exam week ended, many students probably took a breath of fresh air, saying, “Wow, it’s finally over.” This was my first time writing an exam and let me tell you, the scene is not pretty: kids with abnormally dark eye circles, stressed faces, and the sweat of anxiety are everywhere.  I clearly remember someone in the halls screaming, “Oh no, I failed. My life is over.” It struck me: are kids really that concerned over their exam results? Why? read more

LGBT Week at St. Robert

For a week in March, St. Robert celebrated LGBT week, in order to show support for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community.  For the special week, the LGBT club hosted a variety of events outside of the cafeteria.  Events included a photo shoot with celebrities involved with the LGBT scene, such as Ellen Degeneres.  The photo shoot was not only enjoyable, but it allowed insight to be gained about the current state of LGBT acceptance.  These celebrities inspire people to openly express their sexuality and help stop prejudice.  Another event hosted by the club was the cupcakes sale in support of their cause.  With just a small fee, students at St. Robert enjoyed delicious cupcakes while donating to support LGBT movements in society.  These events all helped raise awareness and support to those classified as LGBT and fight prejudice against them. read more

Arts Week Photography Contest Winner!

In celebration of Arts Week, the Axiom hosted a photography contest based on the prompt of “self-expression through art.” Submissions came in from students of all grades and they were absolutely incredible. However, there is certainly one that best reflected the prompt and it was Linda R-C’s stunning photograph of an art piece contrasted to city buildings in the background. It undoubtedly captures the prompt while demonstrating her talent as a photographer! read more

Arts Week Contest Winner

To celebrate Arts Week which took place from February 17th to the 20th, the Axiom hosted an art contest with the prompt “art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life”. There were many great submissions, but the piece that best reflected the prompt was Carlos Chin’s  “Titania’s Dusk”. Not only does this piece have a very interesting composition with many bold colours and a nice use of contrast, it captures the significance of the prompt as one can almost feel themselves transported from a mundane world to one that is much more fascinating and surreal through this drawingCongratulations to Carlos Chin!  See Mr. Fabroa in room 247 to pick up your prize.  Thank you to all the participants for submitting their art pieces to the newspaper! read more
