Halloween is here, and just like with any other event, there are bound to be movies made for the occasion. Over the years, many cherished Halloween movies have been produced, always bringing spooky, creative ideas to the big screen. Here are two of the many haunting movies you should definitely watch this Halloween.
The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993):
While this movie may not be particularly frightening to the average viewer, the creative art direction director Tim Burton went for allows the story to be presented in a spectacular way.
The Nightmare Before Christmas starts off in Halloween Town with the protagonist Jack Skellington wishing to do something other than scaring the world every year. Jack stumbles upon a door leading him to Christmas Town, where he learns about the holiday Christmas. However, this discovery leads to a catastrophic turn of events, eventually putting the state of Christmas at stake.
The Nightmare Before Christmas is a great example of how creativity can be used to turn an otherwise non-frightening movie into a Halloween classic.
Coraline (2009):
For a slightly more frightening experience, the movie Coraline is a great film to watch. It has a similar art style to The Nightmare Before Christmas, which again allows for the story to be conveyed in the most effective way possible.
The movie is titled after the protagonist Caroline, a girl who finds an entrance in her new house to a seemingly parallel universe. While at first she enjoys life in this “other world,” she soon realizes that things, whether good or bad, may not always be what they appear to be.
Halloween movies are often a great way to spend a Halloween night. However, as shown through The Nightmare Before Christmas and Coraline, Halloween films do not necessarily need to be frightening in order to be highly entertaining.
