St. Robert C.H.S has introduced a furry addition to its mental health support system: visiting therapy dogs. These gentle and affectionate companions have been welcomed with open arms by students, teachers, and staff alike, enriching the school community with their presence.
Therapy dogs have long been recognized for their ability to provide relief from stress, anxiety, and depression. Interacting with these furry companions has been shown to lower cortisol levels, reduce blood pressure. They are also attributed to the increase of production of feel-good hormones like oxytocin and serotonin. That makes their presence at STR even more heartwarming.
Our furry visitors were specially trained to interact with people in a gentle and comforting manner. Stationed in the library, petting time slots were open with students being free to interact with any of the therapy dogs. The dogs also visited hallways and other common areas, providing students with the opportunity to pet them.
Many STR students enjoyed the gentle companionship of our visitors, and their stance as invaluable allies in the journey for mental and emotional wellness. They have certainly left an indelible paw print on the hearts of all who encounter them.
