The COMC Math Competition

Jennifer Liu (9) – STAFF REPORTER

On the November 8, over 40 St. Robert students participated in the Canadian Open Mathematics Challenge (COMC), held in the library after school. Organized by the math department with the support of math club leaders, this is the first time this event is being hosted at our school.

The COMC is Canada’s premier national mathematics competition, created with the purpose of encouraging students to explore, discover, and learn more about mathematics and problem-solving. The top 50 students will then be invited to write the Canadian Mathematical Olympiad (CMO).

Currently, this contest is available to math club members only, but if you are interested in taking part in similar contests, make sure to check out the bulletin board next to the math office. The math club also has prep sessions for these contests and will cover useful advanced math theories and topics at their weekly meetings that are held every Tuesday in room 208.
