The Exploitation of AI Leans Towards a Degrading Society

The use of artificial intelligence has increased exponentially within the past years, with society becoming overly dependent on it because of its accessibility. Whether it be using AI for help with assignments, writing emails or everyday struggles, it has started to become a reliable source for quick answers. However, the increased use of AI is harming the world more than it is benefiting it.

Ever since students discovered the world of AI, it has been used in academics more than ever. Students often exploit AI by using it as a way to cheat or bypass the system rather than as a tool. For example, using AI to create essays or solve math problems is a common way to misuse this tool. This creates the problem of students submitting unoriginal work, which is unfair to students who didn’t use AI. Additionally, the reliance of AI disregards the purpose of school, which is to learn, and degrades the authenticity of work/effort.

The world’s dependence on AI is also raising concerns about the software taking away jobs. The capabilities of AI continuingly increase, meaning that there is no longer a need for certain occupations like artists and teachers. For example, AI is able to create drawings and animations and it can teach content as well as simplify and personalize it depending on the user. This now forces many to explore other career paths despite spending years working towards their degree.

Artificial intelligence is negatively impacting our environment as well. AI requires energy such as electricity. The more often we use AI, the more energy needs to be generated at a considerably higher rate. Ultimately, this results in pollutants being emitted into our atmosphere, which overall harms our environment.

While it seems that the use of AI would benefit society and make various tasks easier, its long term effects outweigh its benefits and creates a dehumanized society.
