The History of Batman

The DC Universe has been around for quite some time now. The fictional superhero, Batman, has made multiple appearances in the saga, but the history of this character is not an easy one, as it goes way back. Batman’s first on-screen appearance was in the 1940s, debuting in the “Batman” and “Batman and Robin” movies. This marvellous character immediately caught the attention of the media and was returned for a sequel, the 1997 “Batman and Robin”, directed by Joel Schumacher. Unfortunately, the sequel had poor reviews by critics and fans, resulting in the cancellation of the following movies.

Then again, in 2005, the Batman franchise was revived and rebooted, with “Batman Begin”, directed by Christopher Nolan and starring Christain Bale. Nolan continued to direct two further installments, “The Dark Night” in 2008, and “The Dark Knight Rises” in 2012. Both sequels were a huge hit, earning over $1 billion worldwide. After receiving such success, Nolan was credited with reviving this character with his Batman Franchise.

Throughout the years, there have been several actors who portrayed Batman in films. The first Batman was Adam West in the 1960s, followed by Michael Keaton in 1989, Val Kilmer in 1995, George Clooney in 1997, and Christian Bale in 2005, the actor who starred in the Batman Franchise. After Bale, Ben Affleck was the next actor to portray Batman, in the 2016 film “Batman v Superman : Dawn of Justice”, after Warner Bros. launched their DC Extended Universe. That leads us to the current Batman film, released in 2022, starring Robert Pattinson. With this film just being released, critics and fans are still discussing the topic. Let’s hope reviews are positive and box office sales are successful so that we are able to explore the character further, with Robert Pattinson as the lead character, Batman.
