Ever since Taylor Swift announced her tour on November 1st, fans were going haywire. It has been 4 years since her last tour (Reputation Stadium Tour) and the demand for tickets has only ever increased.
As fans anticipated ticket sales, many signed up for presale to obtain a code. Unfortunately, not all were able to receive their tickets, leaving fans in a rampage calling this incident “proof that the Hunger Games could happen in real life.” Greg Maffai, chairman of Live Nation responds by saying, “The site was supposed to be opened up for 1.5 million verified Taylor Swift fans, and we had 14 million people hit the site including bots.”
Despite all the chaos and meltdowns, 2 million tickets were sold. That could have filled 900 stadiums! This is an unprecedented new record, and it is incredible how this sale is just from one artist on a single website. Despite the lucky fans getting a hold of tickets, many others weren’t as lucky. Some even had to deal with scalpers.
It wasn’t a pleasant experience for the majority of the fans who signed up for presale. Even Taylor Swift herself had to announce this issue, “It’s really difficult for me to trust an outside entity with these relationships and loyalties, and excruciating for me to just watch mistakes happen with no recourse.” she says.
We can say this incident has really led to fans feeling “now we got problems, and I don’t think we can solve them” and were not “…ready for it”. All of this has caused displeasure for the majority of her fans and the best of luck is sent to the remaining fans struggling to get tickets, though this once in a lifetime experience is definitely worth it.
