Lights, camera, and action! Many congratulations are in order as the British Academy Film Awards kicked off this year on March 13th with many awards given out, marking the 75th ceremony since the UK’s largest celebration of film excellence started back in 1949. The long-awaited celebration held once again at London’s Royal Albert Hall welcomed back its large crowd of artists after the virtual event in 2021 caused by the pandemic.
Throughout the year, many exceptional films have been released and a few have had the honour of receiving an award including but not limited to:
- The Power of the Dog – Best Film and Director
- Encanto – Animated Film
- Dune – Original Score, Cinematography, Sound, Production Design, and Special Visual Effects
- West Side Story – Casting
- No Time to Die – Editing
- Cruella – Costume Design
- Licorice Pizza – Original Screenplay
And of course, what is a highly-revered event without some special highlights? Actress Ariana DeBose had a small laugh with the press about dressing for the weather next time as that was the focus of her outfit. However, there was something special about her Oscar de la Renta dress that she matched with her co-star Rachel Zegler so that when they stood together, their dresses would reflect the colours of the Ukrainian flag, reflecting their touching statement of standing together in support of Ukraine in these unprecedented times.
A surprise for all those fans who have been bubbling with excitement ever since Millie Bobby Brown and Jake Bongiovi went public with their relationship last year in November the actress and son of Jon Bon Jovi made their red carpet debut at the BAFTA Awards. They were wearing matching black outfits, as well as a Ukraine flag pin as a sign of support for the victims of the war in Europe.
Many well-deserved films, actors, and actresses got the recognition they earned with all the hard work that was put into everything. Once again, a huge congratulations to all the recipients as well as the rest of the nominees who have also worked hard in their respective works. Let’s continue to keep spirits high and enjoy upcoming movies this year that might appear in the next BAFTA Awards!
