Everyone knows Taylor Swift as one of the most famous American singer-songwriters, but most people don’t recognize her as someone who never got to experience normal college life. Just recently, she received an honorary doctorate of fine arts from New York University and to complete the experience, she was even wearing an honorary robe.

May marks Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month and there are many notable individuals who have contributed to the entertainment industry we have today.

April is wrapping up with some blasting music and many epic performances with the return of Coachella. Over the course of two consecutive weekends, one of the world’s most famous music festivals has had quite a few pop culture influencers make news headlines. For those of you not as familiar with it, here’s a quick rundown of what Coachella is all about:

The highly awaited film Morbius was released earlier this month with excited audience members after the trailer for the movie dropped in January 2020. Another film based on the widely known Marvel Comics is, of course, an action-packed movie falling into the adventure genre. The plot revolves around the main character Michael Morbius who suffers from a rare blood disorder, and as a doctor, he wishes to prevent others from going through the same suffering he has. Eventually, he comes close to completely achieving his goal until an experiment goes wrong and transforms Morbius into a vampire. Soon enough, the growing darkness within him gets unleashed out into the world.

Lights, camera, and action! Many congratulations are in order as the British Academy Film Awards kicked off this year on March 13th with many awards given out, marking the 75th ceremony since the UK’s largest celebration of film excellence started back in 1949. The long-awaited celebration held once again at London’s Royal Albert Hall welcomed back its large crowd of artists after the virtual event in 2021 caused by the pandemic.

Do the lyrics “Don’t start now” or “I’m levitating” ring any bells? All that belongs to Dua Lipa’s album Future Nostalgia that was released on March 27, 2020. As one of the first major pop stars to release a new album amidst quarantine, Lipa gained quick success with it and her songs have managed to leave a lasting impact on her listeners. Even with the delay of her tours due to the pandemic, her song Levitating has proved resilient and stayed on the Hot 100 chart for 70 weeks, becoming the longest-charting song by a women on said chart.

Are you thinking about what to do during the weekend or the upcoming March Break? Perhaps you would like to spend some time with your friends or family to watch one of Netflix’s more recent adventure movies: Red Notice. A two-hour compilation of action, mystery, thrill, adventure, a touch of suspense, and of course comedy, because what would a Ryan Reynolds movie be without comedy? Can’t forget about his co-stars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and the Wonder Woman star, Gal Gadot.

Throughout the pandemic, there have been multiple speculations on the reliability of the COVID-19 vaccines. On December 31st, Joe Rogan released an episode on his podcast with virologist Dr.Robert Malone who made false accusations against the efficacy of vaccines because of mass formation psychosis. Malone was banned on Twitter for the misinformation and more than 270 doctors sent letters to Spotify, referring to Rogan’s episode as a menace to public health.

On November 6, 2021, Netflix aired its new animated series Arcane. The series was first announced at the League of Legends’ 10th-anniversary celebration. It was meant to serve as a prequel to the popular League of Legends. It is set in the same universe and retells the origin stories of multiple characters. Familiar characters such as Jinx, Vi, Caitlyn, Ekko, Viktor, Singed, Heimerdinger, Jayce, and Ryze from League of Legends are seen in Arcane.

On November 20, 2021, actor Simu Liu made his hosting debut on Saturday Night Live. To start the night, he opened with his monologue and talked about his career break with becoming the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s first Chinese superhero in his latest movie, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
