Now, what is a conservatorship?
A conservatorship is a legal concept that exists in the United States which declares that if a person is not physically or mentally able to manage their finances or estate, they may be appointed a guardian. In a conservatorship, the guardian is referred to as the conservator and the person they are managing is referred to as a conservative.
In Britney Spears’ case, she is the conservatee and her father is her conservator. Britney’s conservatorship began in 2008 after she had multiple public breakdowns and her mental health declined. She was then checked into rehab facilities multiple times which resulted in her losing custody of her sons Jayden and Sean. After these events, Britney was signed into conservatorship with her father, Jamie Spears.
Despite all the events regarding Britney’s mental health, she still continued to release music and even performed a Los-Vegas residency for four years. However, it has now been 13 years since Britney entered into conservatorship and she is 39-years-old.
