How Art Council’s Haunted House Is Made

This year’s haunted house was a spook-tacular event. Hosted by STR’s very own art council, it aims to give students a little fright during the spooky season. The event might’ve lasted for only a day, but it has been weeks in the making. Come along as I explore how this haunted house was planned.

First, members of the council planned out ticket sales, promotional material, and of course, the theme of the house. This year, the storyline was about you and a group of friends discovering an abandoned research hospital. Inside lurk the outcomes of past experiments from the hospital, and two scientists assist you in escaping.

On the day of the haunted house, members got to the drama room and stage at 8:30 AM sharp. Some members helped with makeup, while at the same time, others decorated the house with fake cobwebs, tables and props to make it feel alive, unlike the monsters. They also rehearsed a few finals times, and then lunch started. Unsuspecting victims— I mean students— entered the haunted house not knowing what to expect, but exited as a changed person.

The actual time it took to go through the whole house only lasted for about 2 minutes or so. However, the amount of time and effort put in is astonishing. Lots of care and dedication were put into making the house special, and the entire art council did an amazing job. Witching you an amazing belated Halloween! I’m sorry, it’s just that these Halloween puns are totally eerie-sistible.
