Meet Your Reporter: Ayda Kulacoglu

Ayda Kulacoglu (10) | STAFF REPORTER

Hi! My name is Ayda (pronounced I-da) and I’m a grade 10 editorial reporter for the Axiom this year.

A little about me: I’ve been interested in literature ever since learning to read in English after moving to Canada seven years ago. What started as a fascination with the colourful drawings on pages of children’s books filled with words I didn’t understand eventually led to a middle school obsession with every popular Y/A novel one can imagine (except Harry Potter, which I despised for no apparent reason), which inevitably led to my bookshelves carrying more money than I have in my bank account.

Nevertheless, the art of typing one’s heart out onto a digital document only to cringe at it the next day is a hobby I love even more than reading. Aside from my dozens of unfinished fiction short stories and novels, I also love to write nonfiction essays and opinion pieces on society– a passion that came to me naturally after consuming George Orwell and Margaret Atwood books all summer– and existential confusion– because where else would reading The Bell Jar and No Longer Human come in handy?

Words aside (pun intended), I also love robotics, math contests, scuba diving, and being a part of as many clubs/teams as I can manage. I’m also an ex-gymnast of 13 years with finally enough time on my hands to do a billion different extracurriculars, and I’m really looking forward to writing editorials this year!
