Ryan Hu (11) | STAFF REPORTER
Hi, my name is Ryan and I’m a grade 11 reporter for the editorial team. This is my second year at the Axiom, and I’m excited to be back.
A big part of my life is the Japanese language, which I study in whatever way I can in my free time. After over three years of study I am close to my desired level of fluency, which is mainly to be able to read the language. Over the summer I’ve amassed a modest collection of around 20 Japanese light novels, mostly from the Fantasia Bunko and Sneaker Bunko publishers. I also set the languages in all my devices and accounts in Japanese, which has helped me a lot in practising my reading. Nowadays, I mainly “study” by watching VTubers on YouTube and by reading my books.
Another one of my favourite pastimes is finding music on Rate Your Music, a site that allows you to rate and discover new kinds of music. For the past year I’ve been listening to a lot of electronic dance music, especially from the British rave scene of the early-to-mid `90s, although I’ve also enjoyed other genres like hard bop, neo-psychedelia and disco. I’ve since learned a lot about music of all kinds, and I encourage readers to give the website a visit, especially for people who listen to less popular genres.
I look forward to writing at the Axiom this year!
