Transgender Day of Visibility is celebrated annually on March 31st. On this day, we celebrate the accomplishments of Transgender and other gender minorities, such as non-binary people. It is also a day to recognize the work that has yet to be done to achieve justice and equality for Transgender people and challenge our own biases and prejudices.
To mark this day, the Social Justice Council sold pronoun pins outside of the cafeteria during all three lunches, on Thursday, Friday, and Monday. The event was created with input from PRIDE Club. There were pins for different sets of pronouns, such as “She/Her”, “They/Them”, and “He/Him”. Other pins encouraged people to ask the wearer’s pronouns and to be respectful of everyone’s pronouns. The pins cost 75 cents each.
This event was held to raise awareness of transgender people and other gender minorities in the school community. It also challenged the idea that people’s outward appearance (body, clothes, hair, voice, etc…) corresponds to a certain gender or certain pronouns.
