On November 22, the 2020 American Music Awards (AMAs) took place and due to the current state of the world during the pandemic, it took place in an empty stadium with virtual appearances from artists around the world. Only three other artists won three AMAs this year and they were: The Weeknd, Dan + Shay and Justin Bieber. Other notable wins were: Doja Cat – New Artist of the Year and Favorite Female Artist (Soul/R&B), Harry Styles – Favourite Pop/Rock Album, BTS – Favorite Social Artist and Favorite Duo or Group (Pop/Rock) and many more!

This year the Grammys are expected to be done similarly however they carry much more prestige. Many of the artists who were nominated for AMAs, were also nominated in subsequent Grammy categories. An especially groundbreaking nomination this year was that of BTS being nominated, for the first time, for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.

For many viewers, artists and reporters alike the American Music Awards can seem like a practice run for the Grammys. However, the AMAs may have been just enough to get everyone to 2021 which will hopefully have great things in store for music and the world!
