In May of 2002, the first Asian Heritage Month was celebrated. Since then, it has continued to be celebrated every year. It is a month where Canadians celebrate and reflect on Asian heritage and culture. Especially during the pandemic, Asian Heritage Month is a great way to acknowledge the contributions made to Canada by Asians.

On April 22, over 1 billion people worldwide celebrated Earth day. The St Robert Environmental Council organized “Earth week” as a fun way to raise awareness about the environment. Throughout the entire week, they posted about activities related to environmental topics on their Instagram.

On March 8th and 9th, the YCDSB Mental Health team hosted a lunch, learn and share session. All students were welcomed to join the meet and listen. Five people, belonging to the mental health team lead the session.

It is halfway through the school year, and school is now 100% online. Students across the world are adapting to the new changes as a result of the pandemic. A Grade 9 student named Angela, has kindly sat down to discuss some questions concerning the beginning the third quadmester of school during emergency learning.

On February 12th, STUCO hosted an exciting, never before experienced event for students at Saint Robert. A one-time, virtual Grade 9 mentorship session was hosted by senior students, where Grade 9s were carefully paired with student leaders in Grade 11 and 12, based on common interests. 9th graders were able to talk to older students about school, academics, co-curriculars, and mental health. Grade 9 students finally had the opportunity to get advice from seniors on a plethora of school-related topics, and had the chance to make new friends. This program took place completely online, and students used Google Meet and the Google Meet breakout room features to communicate with each other.

A month ago, members of the HOSA club at St. Roberts participated in an exam called FLC (Fall Leadership Conference) . HOSA is a club that focuses on health sciences. Students spend a couple of weeks preparing for the test. There were over 30 topics, from which, students could decide which topic they would participate in. The test and the study package costed members $85.

Students from grades 9 to 12 sat down on November 18, 2020 to write the Canadian Senior and Intermediate Math Contests (CSMC and CIMC). Freshmen and Sophomores wrote the CIMC, while Juniors and Seniors wrote the CSMC. These tests were provided by Waterloo University, and the purpose was to challenge students’ math abilities.
