Audience Reaction to Morbius: Is it Worth the Watch?

The highly awaited film Morbius was released earlier this month with excited audience members after the trailer for the movie dropped in January 2020. Another film based on the widely known Marvel Comics is, of course, an action-packed movie falling into the adventure genre. The plot revolves around the main character Michael Morbius who suffers from a rare blood disorder, and as a doctor, he wishes to prevent others from going through the same suffering he has. Eventually, he comes close to completely achieving his goal until an experiment goes wrong and transforms Morbius into a vampire. Soon enough, the growing darkness within him gets unleashed out into the world.

As spine-chilling and exciting as the plot sounds, viewers seem to have a different opinion of the new movie. A low score on the Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer (16%) has proven to be a much lower rating than anticipated. According to Rotten Tomatoes, the consensus of critics is that the movie is cursed with uninspired effects, rote performances, and a story that doesn’t entirely make sense. It doesn’t bring the concept of Morbius justice. The average audience reaction is that the movie’s storyline is not original, but the visuals and action can still be counted on.

In general, the reaction Morbius is receiving from the public is not as encouraged as desired and has seemingly been reviewed as one of the worst superhero movies derived from a comic book which is reflected by the devastating box office drop of over 74%. In the second week of its debut, Sony’s new movie has suffered in the box office and has been harshly criticized by fans and critics alike. However, despite everything, the director has spoken out about the various opportunities that are available for Morbius’ story to progress, along with the slight snippet of a connection to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

As disappointing as the reactions to the movie have been thus far, there are certainly still individuals out there who enjoyed it and thought that this movie was right up their alley.
