With the world around us developing so quickly, it can sometimes be difficult to figure out where to start learning. The Quizzards of Oz is a club that helps its members stay up to date on interesting subjects, both within and beyond the school curriculum. Lessons are taught by the executive members of the club in an engaging and informative style.

A month ago, members of the HOSA club at St. Roberts participated in an exam called FLC (Fall Leadership Conference) . HOSA is a club that focuses on health sciences. Students spend a couple of weeks preparing for the test. There were over 30 topics, from which, students could decide which topic they would participate in. The test and the study package costed members $85.

The week leading up to Thursday, February 14th, or Valentine’s Day, the St. Robert CHS student body sedulously worked to make the day of love special.
‘Wasteless Wednesdays’ is a school-wide initiative run year-round by the Environmental Council to raise awareness on the excessive amounts of waste produced in our day to day lives and how we can help alleviate the problem as a school community.
The Environmental Council is a group of students that meet together every Monday to address environmental issues. During their first meeting, they helped by maintaining the school gardens. This week, they discussed the consequences of throwing clothes in landfills.

Throughout the month of November, the grade 12 students at St. Robert CHS went on a trip to the University of Toronto to prepare themselves for university.
The students were given a tour around the campus and the dorms. After the quick tour, the students were led into the library and given a thorough introduction on applying to UofT by an administrator.
Former St. Robert graduates currently studying at UofT were given the chance to share about their insights and experiences. From acquiring information about the university to getting any questions answered, this trip was beneficial for many of the students. Tim Chang (12) commented that the “University of Toronto appears to offer a good environment and may be one of my post-secondary destinations.”
From this trip, Joshua Zhang (12), realized that studying at university is very different from high school because it is up to the student to study diligently and have good time management skills.
Following the insightful presentation, students were treated with a buffet for lunch. They then boarded the bus to go back to school. Many students found this trip helpful in planning for their post-secondary endeavours.

There remains a concerning trend of more high school students in the 20th century across the world exhibiting the increased symptoms of stress.
While adults attempt to console these students, with the overused saying “Don’t worry. You’re still young!” they fail to truly recognize the roots of the issue. It seems as if the stress is the unavoidable by-product of living in the current era.
