They say a picture is worth 1000 words, and this image of English soccer club Manchester United’s manager Jose Mourinho arguing with one of his star players, Paul Pogba proves this theory. As Manchester United continues their poor performance, Mourinho inches himself closer and closer to getting fired.

Mourinho has been United’s manager since May 2016, and under his leadership the club has been on a steady decline. In his first season, he managed to win three trophies, none of whom were very prestigious. However, this was before he fully implemented his own style onto the team. The next year, Mourinho brought in his new tactics and while they did win second place in the premier league, their play style was only getting worse. So far this season they’ve had 4 wins, 5 losses and 2 draws in all competitions, and the few wins they do have were a struggle to get. In their last game, which was against Newcastle (a team that is currently second last) they were 2-0 down in the first 10 minutes. But in the final 20 minutes they managed three goals to win. All this becomes more disappointing when you consider the hundreds of millions of dollars Mourinho’s spent on players, in addition to what was already spent. So with so much star power and new names being regularly added, it really is odd how they keep doing worse.

But apart from the decline in quality, Mourinho is also the cause of many problems in his team. Over his career, Jose has cause many issues between himself and his team, by picking fights with players, disrespecting staff members and having a generally odd and rude behavior. This demeanor is probably why he has never stayed at a club for more than 3 years at a time.  His strange behaviour was proven again when he took away Paul Pogba’s vice captaincy (meaning he is the backup captain) after Pogba made some critical comments regarding the team’s defensive strategy in their draw against Wolverhampton. Mourinho then stripped Pogba of the captaincy without an explanation, causing yet another rift between him and his players.

Now, even though some may say it is too early to determine how this season will play out for Manchester United, the fact of the matter is that the trouble Mourinho causes in addition to the other issues the club suffers (such as players being inconsistent in their performance) may just be one problem too much for the team to succeed.
