One Step at A Time: Environmental Change

Gloria Yang (10) | STAFF REPORTER

In the status quo, environmental initiatives are becoming increasingly popular, especially since the environment has become such an important and recent issue. There are several organizations that are committed to reducing the impact that human activities have on the environment, and there are several things that we as individuals can do to support these causes.

One of the easiest ways to reduce our impact on the environment is to buy environmentally- friendly products. This could include reusable water bottles, recycled paper, and second-hand clothes (thrifting). The St. Robert Environmental Council is hosting an event called 12 Days of Eco, where students can learn more about ways to reduce their carbon footprint, and can enter a raffle to win prizes! Students can enter the raffle by submitting an image relating to the prompt for the day. For example, if the prompt for that day was about sustainable paper, one may choose to submit a picture of them using a whiteboard, tablet, or buying recycled paper to use.

The first of the 12 days focused on sustainable paper, and students were able to win a recycled notebook! The second day talked about rice farming, and students could win a rice hat. The third day stressed the importance of limiting paper usage, and the prize was a whiteboard. The fourth day discussed the impact of plastic water bottles, and the prize was a reusable water bottle. To see more information about the prizes, and ways that we as individuals can help reduce our impact on the environment, check out St. Robert Environmental Council on Instagram.

Although the 12 days have already passed, students are still able to enter the raffle. Ultimately, environmental issues are something that greatly affects our lives, and the world around us. The examples listed above are just some of the ways that we as students can help reduce our impact on the environment, and maybe make a change on the world!
