On March 4th, 2018 The 90th Academy Awards took place at Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California celebrating the tremendous successes of the film industry.

This year’s Oscars were hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, host and executive producer of Jimmy Kimmel Live. He ensured that political issues and Hollywood press was addressed. He encouraged the people of the film industry to put an end to sexual harassment following the recent accusations. Joining the students of Parkland, Florida in “The March for Our Lives”  and the prevention of gun violence was also addressed.

Many films were deservingly awarded for the hard work and talent of their various directers, producers, writers, actors, and actresses. “Best Picture” was awarded to “The Shape of Water” directed by Guillermo del Toro, winner of”Best Director”. “Best Actor” went to Gary Oldman and “Best Actress” went to Frances McDormand.

“Best Supporting Actor” was awarded to Sam Rockwell and “Best Supporting Actress” was awarded to Allison Janney. NBA basketball retiree, Kobe Bryant won “Best Animated Short Film” for “Dear Basketball”.  “Get Out” was awarded ” Best Original Screenplay” and director, Jordan Peele was extremely grateful for his first Oscar.

Dee Rees, Nancy Meyers, and Melissa McCarthy each directed a 60-second Walmart short film called, ” The Walmart Box” that aired during the Oscars. These talented creators directed short films that inspired many and sent important messages, causing it to have a massive and positive response.
