This year on November 15th, the Social Justice Council hosted an event called ‘A Sandwich or Two’. Students were divided into sections so that they can put together sandwiches. Although it seems like a small act, it created a huge impact not only for the people volunteering, but also to people outside of the school community.

The procedure for this event went like this. First, students had to fill out a registration form that represented their willingness to volunteer. Surprisingly, more people volunteered than was expected, so the Social Justice Council had to choose by first come first serve. When the chosen people arrived at the cafeteria, they were given gloves, caps and other safety equipment due to COVID-19. They were split by grade, and each grade had their own table. A grade 9 volunteer at St. Robert Catholic High School, Viana, stated, “The ‘A Sandwich or Two’ event was a great way for students to earn volunteer hours, and help our society.”

In the end, St. Robert’s was able to create more than 400 sandwiches. These sandwiches contributed greatly to our community because they were sent to people facing homelessness.
