Valentine’s Day was a day of love at St. Roberts as both students and staff participated in various festivities. From traditional gift-giving to more unique offerings, there was something for everyone at this festive event.

One of the highlights of the day was the magnificent red roses distributed around by French Council. Classrooms were filled with happiness as students left and right were given roses with Hershey’s Kisses and a beautifully printed note. An anonymous Grade 10 student said “The French council worked so hard and it’s a great way to give a small gift of appreciation to someone special” As the school was filled with the sweet scent of roses for the rest of the day, students were left overjoyed with their gift, a token of love and gratitude from a dear one. “I was so surprised when I received 3 roses, it brought a big smile to my face” stated Carissa Kong, a Grade 10 Pre-IB student.

The Psychology club also got in on the Valentine’s Day spirit by giving a presentation on the science of love. The club discussed many topics surrounding love such as attraction, the triangular theory of love, proximity liking and how to manipulate someone to fall in love. Students were fascinated by the presentation, and it sparked many interesting discussions and debates. The biggest question of this presentation was “Does the ’36 questions that lead to love’ quiz actually work or is it a ruse?”

Finally, the Film club organized a screening of the classic romantic comedy “She’s the Man”. With the addition of popcorn and candy bars, the movie was a hit with the students. Many enjoyed the humour and heartwarming storyline. “Even though the movie is a little bit cringe, it is still iconic,” said Gr 10 student Vicky Lu. We hope to see similar movies in the following years!

Overall, Valentine’s Day at St. Robert CHS was a day of love and fun. The school came together to celebrate the holiday and spread positivity throughout the community. From the beautiful roses to the presentation of love, there was something for everyone to enjoy. It was a day that will be remembered fondly by students and staff alike and a testament to the strong sense of community that exists at St. Robert CHS.
